Joe David Garza is a filmmaker, commercial director and video creative from Freer, Texas, based in San Antonio. With more than 20 years in film and video production, his career spans documentary filmmaking, television, national advertising, branded entertainment and creative direction.
Garza began his career directing, shooting and editing independent films, music videos and commercial work throughout Texas. His early career included field production for various productions, documentary and unscripted television, and editing and shooting the documentary “Behind the Confessions”, created alongside acclaimed Texas singer-songwriter Radney Foster.
In 2011, Garza joined Trophy Hunters TV, earning a Lone Star Emmy the following year for his contributions. He later became Executive Producer of The Takedown with Matt Hughes, working alongside UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes on the nationally and internationally syndicated series.
Since joining USAA in 2017, Garza has evolved from filmmaker and cinematographer into a creative leader, helping shape video storytelling for one of America’s leading military-focused financial services organizations. His work spans national broadcast advertising, NFL and Army-Navy Game campaigns, documentary storytelling, social-first content and original branded entertainment, including USAA’s first series on YouTube - Service & Ink .
Today, Garza leads and directs work across major USAA brand, military and sports initiatives, bringing together creative direction and more than two decades of hands-on filmmaking experience.
